This is one beautiful stone. Ratanakiri province, Bokeo district is where the best blue zircons are mined. This one is right up there with the best of the best and this one is huge with exceptional cutting for full reflection and no bloated pavilion to add unnecessary weight. It had to be recut the stone originally weighed 17.06 cts when purchased and after recut was 12.78 cts.
Zircon is mined down tunnels that go down to a gravelly layer where the rounded zircon pebbles are found. A pump is needed to pump out groundwater that constantly seeps in. Many stones are heated to see if they can get the prized red and blue colors.
Very dangerous mining methods and cave ins occur all too frequently.
This is a great price on a stone "quality cut" this "size" and "depth of color" and "VVS clarity".
