General Description:

Yellow Hackmanite is an exceptionally rare variety within the Sodalite family of minerals. While Hackmanite is more commonly known for its blue and violet hues, the appearance of a vivid yellow color in this mineral is extremely uncommon. The mineral's distinctive coloration is attributed to the presence of sulfur and various trace elements within its crystal structure.

What sets Yellow Hackmanite apart from its counterparts is its fascinating ability to exhibit tenebrescence, a unique optical property. When exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, this yellow variety of Hackmanite undergoes a dramatic and reversible transformation, shifting from its typical yellow state to a vivid reddish color. This color-changing characteristic is the result of the reversible incorporation and expulsion of sulfur ions within the crystal lattice in response to UV light exposure.

Yellow Hackmanite is prized by mineral enthusiasts and collectors for its captivating ability to display a vibrant array of colors under different lighting conditions, making it a remarkable and sought-after member of the Sodalite family. Its rarity and intriguing optical properties make it a valuable addition to any mineral collection.

General Description:

Once proposed to be the national gemstone of the United States, tourmaline is found all over the world and in a variety of colors. Tourmaline is the most colorful of all gemstones because, according to an ancient Egyptian legend, it passed through a rainbow on its journey to Earth and brought all of the colors of the rainbow with it. Tourmaline is a mineral group comprised of multiple species of complex borosilicates. Lovingly referred to by mineralogists as the garbage can mineral, its crystal structure allows for the incorporation of a wide range of elements, many of which cause the stunning color varieties and spectacular zoning of tourmaline, including copper, manganese, iron, and titanium. Major tourmaline species include liddicoatite, dravite, uvite, schorl, and elbaite.
