Kunzite is a pink to violet variety of the spodumene mineral, colored by manganese, known for its high brilliance and pleochroism (showing different colors from different angles). While relatively hard (6.5–7 on the Mohs scale), its perfect cleavage makes it brittle and prone to damage from sharp blows or heat, and sensitive to strong light exposure that can cause fading.
