These stones were formed during Cretaceous Period which is 50 to 70 million years ago. These were formed in the Gulf of Mexico. The stone is quite unique and is found in few places on earth like in USA’s Zion National Park and in Mahajanga, Madagascar.

The stones are made up of Calcite and Aragonite. The outer gray rock is made up of limestone. These stones are a form of sedimentary geode. These stones have dried out, cracked and hollowed on the sea beds for millions of years.
