Vanadium beryl
is a rare green variety of beryl found primarily in Nigeria, particularly in the Nasarawa and Jos Plateau regions. Unlike traditional emeralds, which derive their color from chromium and iron, vanadium beryl obtains its green hue solely from the presence of vanadium in its chemical structure. The Nasarawa Egon mine is primarily known for producing highly saturated, gem-quality vanadium beryl crystals.
the coloration of the Nigerian vanadium-bearing beryl is distinctly different from that of emeralds, and there are some differences from other normal green beryls
This variety remains relatively uncommon in the mineral world, and fine examples, particularly from Nasarawa Egon, are highly sought after by collectors
