pewter/brass Spanish military shank cuff/buttons. Those were typical of the Austrian's dynasty (1519 to 1700) and were those that wore the famous Spanish Tercios and the New World Conquerors. You can see several original period types such as an "Star" , "Grill", "Half-Ball", "Flower", "Rose".... Some of them are Hallmarked on the back. Uncleaned with concretions. As found.
The Tercio (Literally Third) was the basic infantry unit of the Spanish Austrian Monarchy. For near 200 years were the master military units in the European battle fields. Composed of a variable number of men ( typically 2000/3000 ) in a wise mix of arquebusiers, musketeers, pikemen and crossbowmen wrote the most brilliant pages of the Spanish infantry. Still today some Spanish infantry units bear the name Tercio in memory of those brave men.
