Paraiba tourmaline is a rare, highly prized gemstone known for its vibrant and "electric" neon blue, greenish-blue, or violet-blue colors. This unique coloration is caused by the presence of copper and manganese, and its rarity has made it one of the most sought-after gemstones. First discovered in Brazil in the late 1980s, the name "Paraíba" comes from the Brazilian state where it was originally found.
Composition: A variety of tourmaline that gets its color from the presence of copper and manganese.
Rarity: It is extremely rare, even rarer than diamonds, which contributes to its high value.
Origin: First discovered in the Paraíba state of Brazil, but similar copper-bearing tourmalines are now also mined in Mozambique and Nigeria.
