The following website specific rules have been introduced by the Treasures Auctions Network to uphold the high standard of products and being sold.
Many of the rules below have come about due to the subjectiveness of certain terms in the Gemstone industry. These rules are in place to ensure our customers receive a consistent and accurate product.
Which category do I list under?
Stone Category - where single faceted stones should be listed
Gemstone Carvings - Only single carvings
Cabochons - Only single cabochons
Pairs - All Pairs, including pairs of carvings, cabochons & faceted stones
Parcels - All Parcels, including parcels of carvings, cabochons & faceted stones
Rough & Raw - All Rough, including single pieces of rough, pairs of rough & parcels of rough
Specimens - All Specimens, including single specimens, pairs and parcels of specimens
*If sub categories do not exist and the system allows, listing in the header category is acceptable. Example: Mineral Specimens. You can also raise a support ticket so we can create a category for you.
If an item has a hole drilled in it this item is to be listed under Beads / Stone Type
Beryllium Treatment is NOT to be referred to as ‘New Heat’
Alexandrite - Stone must show distinct color change from Green to Red or show a color change that would be considered Alexandrite.
Chocolate Diamond - This is a trademarked term and is NOT to be used on our website
Goshenite - This is the colorless variety of Beryl. This is not to be called “White Aquamarine”
Hiddenite - Only Green Spodumene that contains the element Chromium may be called Hiddenite. Irradiated green Spodumene from Afghanistan, Pakistan does not contain Chromium and should be referred to as Green Spodumene. It is not to be called Green Kunzite
Pearls - The term "Natural Pearl" is reserved only for very rare, old pearls that were harvested from the wild. Most pearls these days (both fresh and saltwater) are cultivated and cannot be called "Natural". Please call these "real pearl" or simply "pearl"
Padparadscha Sapphire - This term is reserved for Sapphire only. Do not use it on any other gemstone type
Prasiolite - All Green Quartz must be listed as Prasiolite (Green Amethyst is not acceptable). This material is almost always heated or irradiated and heated
Tanzanite - This gemstone is routinely heat treated to improve the color. Listings should state treatment = heated unless you are able to prove otherwise with a certificate
Topaz - Brown/Orange Topaz is to be sold as Irradiated always
Topaz (Blue) - Should be listed as treatment = irradiated
Topaz (Imperial) - Stone must be certified by an approved lab and include a color grading stating “Imperial” color
Tourmaline (Paraiba) - This term is reserved for Tourmaline only. Stones must be accompanied by a certificate from an approved lab that also states that copper is the element giving the stone its Paraiba color
Triphane - This is the Yellow Variety of Spodumene. It is not to be called Yellow Kunzite
Yellow Beryl / Golden Beryl - This is known as Heliodor. This is not to be called “Yellow Emerald”
Zircon - This gemstone is routinely heat treated to improve the color. Blue Zircon listings should state treatment = heated unless you are able to prove otherwise with a certificate
Zultanite - This is a trademarked name and is NOT to be used on our website
If the stone being listed is color change, then the seller must make an attempt to show the color change either in a video or in a photo.
As of March 15 2021, Glass filled gemstones of any kin will not be accepted on Gem Rock Auctions
The weight field can be used for either the total weight of the item OR the weight of the stones in the Jewelry item. BUT it must clearly stated in the description what the weight is (ie, "the weights shown is for the entire piece", "the weight shown is for the stones in the piece")
Certificates will only be accepted for the a gemstone lab that is on our approved list of gemstone labs. You can find that list here.
