ORIGIN : MADAN, BULGARIA
Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.
A wonderful example featuring golden Pyrite cluster on Galena along with minor black Sphalerite from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria. Specimen looks very interesting under magnification as there are details to explore, spot the well formed micro tetrahedral Sphalerite crystals on a few areas and view the iridescent greens on one of the Pyrite. Although crystals are visible to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the crystal structures and colors.Will be a wonderful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
